Around Us

If you like walking there are many walks to choose from locally as Chittlehamholt and its immediate surrounding area was a private park owned by the successive Earls of Devon until the reign of Henry VIII.  The village is the link for many local public footpaths and bridleways. Walks include hilltop strolls with views across the Taw Valley, woodland pathways and down to the river Taw. The scenery is abundant and varied with many of the footpaths connecting some of the local inns (OS maps Explorer 127 or Landranger 180).

A little further a field there is the South West Coastal Path or for cycling, you will be spoilt for choice with many woodland and country routes including the Tarka trail and Eggesford Forest. Bikes can be hired at various places on the Tarka trail or you may bring your own.

Our site is convenient for all North Devon attractions such as Exmoor and there are many beaches along the North Devon coast including Illfracombe, Woolacombe, Croyde Bay and Instow (dog walking beach).

There are also many superb gardens to visit from your base with us including RHS Garden Rosemoor.

Golf is available with seven courses within 20 miles and the closest being a five minute stroll.

Fishing is very popular in the area with lakes and reservoirs for coarse and still water trout fishing, plus rivers for wild trout and salmon. On the coast there is ample opportunity for sea fishing either beach or boat fishing.

Easy driving access for Barnstaple, Clovelly, Appledore and historic Bideford.
